HOW IT WORKS

2 hours / month

Each Learning Lab is only 2 hours, ensuring a manageable monthly time commitment for those with busy schedules.

case-based practice

Participants bring challenging “cases” from their professional/personal lives, and the group uses these to practice diagnosing the issues and proposing and practicing possible responses.

12 months to make it count

All Learning Labs are offered in 12-month series so that learning moves beyond inspiring insights and leads to a true advance in participants’ capabilities.

a consistent community

The same 6-8 leaders take part in each 12-month series, so that learning is accelerated by collective momentum and continuity.

alumni and newcomers

Learning Labs are open to both ELIA alumni and newcomers, allowing for a blend of perspectives and experiences.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

ELIA Learning Labs focus on diagnosis, response planning, and rehearsal for the most complex challenges.

Typically, things go wrong in our initial diagnosis of a situation and what we correspondingly judge as the appropriate response. ELIA Learning Labs provide advanced training in these essential skills by moving beyond traditional formulae and assumptions. Instead, you will hone your instincts for understanding and addressing the true complexities of a situation—with leadership presence, a highly trained eye, and a multiplicity of tools and actions to draw upon.

Each Lab provides practice time, rich dialogue, and skill building. You will learn how to engage with situations that resist easy answers, how to avoid the common pitfalls of focusing on the most obvious “problems to fix”, and how to prevent the kind of communication that evokes unintended consequences.
